Highlights of Fan’s 2021-22 season included collaborating with the Euro Sinfonietta Wien performing a full Mozart program at Vienna’s Muth Hall as well as organizing and conducting at the Vietnam Opera House’s first classical music music festival. In the upcoming 2022-23 season, he will premiere Cavallaria Rusticana at the Vietnam Opera House, tour with the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra of Szolnok across Hungary and in Austria’s Haydn Hall. Fan will conduct three performances of “Twirl of the Heartstrings” with both the In-heritage Philharmonic and the Hong Kong Dance Company and conduct a full Czech program at the Smetana Hall with the North Czech Philharmonic.
As a violinist, Fan was a long-standing member of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and has acted as the Principal Second Violin, Assistant Concertmaster, and Acting Concertmaster in his 38-years career there. He has also toured Taiwan, Japan, Canada, Chicago, London, Cremona, and New York with different chamber groups he has founded, including the Tononi String Quartet, the New Art Quartet, and the Canzone Trio. With the Tononi String Quartet, he has also premiered music composed by Benjamin Britten and Leoš Janáček in China.
Fan received top education at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Julliard School, where he studied violin under Ivan Galamian, Joshua Brodsky, and Joseph Fuchs. He also studied conducting under Jorge Mester during his Julliard years.
